Information about upcoming plans and ideas in the Social Sciences Lab – MENA. Network:
1 – General updates:
During the past months, we have finished the process of inviting selected scholars worldwide, who are coming from different specialties within the Social Sciences. The idea was at first to create a small community of scholars, which can be extended later based on some access rules related to keep the competitivity of the institute. To see the updated list of scholars, please check this link: https://www.ssl-mena.
The community we are creating will be the reference for the programs and events we are organizing, so you can influence the activity of the Lab and direct it by contacting us or answering the surveys we are attaching, as you might see below.
2 – Fellowships Program:
3. The MENA Yearbook of Social Sciences:
The MENA Yearbook of Social Sciences 2024 is an edited book with the participation of different scholars to cover the issues of MENA. The book will be published by one of the well-known publishers in Europe (We are in contact with Brill, Palgrave Macmillan, and Springer). Initially, we have chosen this title for 2024: Struggles to Democracy in MENA Region: State, Society, and Religion. Still not final, and we are looking for the opinion of our scientific community. By December of this year, we will send the book proposal and open publicly call of papers.
If you are interested in the Yearbook idea, want to join our preparation, or want to share your opinion, please fill out this very short survey: https://forms.office.
4. The International network:
The Lab is trying to work and organize its activities based on the interaction of the members of the scientific community, like you. For that, and to make this possible, we are planning to apply for COST grant in 2024, as a European research institute. This will be possible only if we create an active small network, that can be extended over time. It will still be a selective process to guarantee the seriousness of scholars and the quality of their research, and finally, to keep the attractivity and competitivity of our institute.
If you are interested to join the COST Network team, here is a brief survey that we will need some information about you: https://forms.office.com/
