TEACHING OF ARABIC LANGUAGE TO NON NATIVE SPEAKERS: EXPERIENCES AND FUTURISTIC VISION
@ Department of Arabic, University of Kerala, Kerala, India (16 – 18 December 2019)
Language and Literature are not just a part of human expression but also of life, culture and history. No wonder then the teaching methods proposed by academic scientists are only catalysts that can supplement Teaching-learning process, which is independent to a teacher and is subjected to change based on place and time.
Foreign language learning has gained much popularity in recent years. Studies show that one language that has become an area of interest to learners across the globe is Arabic. This rise in popularity is a result of political, economic, and social changes happened in the world after Globalization.
With the increase of interest in learner centered approaches and learner autonomy, there was an increasing interest in helping learners ‘take charge of their own learning’ and ‘chart their own pathways to success’ which emphasize on the process rather than concentration on product.
Being a Semitic language which possesses the rich history of more than 15 centuries, Arabic learning needs special attention. Arabic language has been taught in the Kerala from the primary level to PhD level. The proposed conference is an attempt to attract researchers from different parts of the world to share their successful experiences in teaching Arabic Language which can be benefited to the teachers and institutes in India.
